How to Choose Your Prom Dress
The time to get your first designer prom dress has finally come. Whether you have it prepared specially for you or buy it, there are some essential things to bear in mind. You do not want a thin chiffon dress if it is likely to be cold, and you don’t want to be wearing velvet if very hot. Wear something you will be comfortable in, which is always fundamental.
Next, consider the design. This should flatter your figure and heighten your personality. Choose something fussy if you like being the center of attention, have an outgoing personality, or love meeting people. Don’t be too outrageous, remember, photos of this night are going to follow you through your life. You don’t want your children to be able to use them as ammunition to get what they want in the future. If you tend to be more shy, then look for something refined and understated. Choose a style in which you can be comfortable.
You should also look carefully and honestly at your figure when choosing the style of your formal prom dress. Very few of us have a perfect figure, most have at least a few pounds somewhere that they wish they didn’t have. Don’t assume that you can reduce your weight by prom night – That is always unlikely to happen. Rather select a dress that will hide the extra inches and emphasis your assets. If you are on the heavy side, don’t wear tight clothes, frills and ruffles will only tend to draw attention to your imperfections so don’t wear them. If you are large on top, then don’t choose a low cut costume and make sure that the costume it is not to tight. The edict ‘If you have it – flaunt it’ does not apply on prom night and in the end will probably only embarrass you. You want to look glamorous and elegant on this special night. One other thing, if you fancy a striped material, make sure the stripes go the correct way. Crosswise stripes tend to make you look shorter and fatter, Upright stripes tend to make you look taller and thinner. If you are challenged in the bust department or your hips are large then stripes can often come to your rescue.
Color is very important. It should look good on you and enhance your skin tone. If you have a very pale complexion, avoid Royal blue, you will appear to be even paler. Also you will look insipid and fade into the background with very pale colors, and on this special evening that is the last thing you want to do. Deep pinks, greens and reds would look good. Try your favorite color. Pick out the color that best suits you.If you are a redhead, avoid oranges and reds, but greens should look really good on you. Wearing a dress the same color as your eyes can really work well.
Keep your options open as you select your dress. Try everything, before you dismiss it. The most important thing, though is that you should enjoy wearing your prom gown. This is a special night and you should feel special. Look for something else if you don’t have that special feeling.

I'm so glad I don't have to choose dresses ever. It just seems like so much work and looks like it's very easy to go wrong with it.

Ooh it would have to be one of the worst dress moments to have to choose in life, just make sure you feel comfortable and the rest will fall into place.

I’m not a big fan of the idea of trying to change your body shape, to fit into a particular dress, in time for the prom. That’s why I like some of the makeover shows on TV which recommend finding something to wear that works well with your figure.
Really it is very nice and interesting post and thanks for sharing it.
Me, I start selecting the dress that is right for me by convincing myself that I will be pretty when the prom night comes. In that way, I feel good inside then inspired to go on selecting the right dress for me.
