Queen of the Road by Doreen Orion (SG Giveaway)
Queen of the Road: The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband and a Bus with a Will of its Own”
and is written by Doreen Orion
About the Book:
From Amazon
A pampered Long Island princess hits the road in a converted bus with her wilderness-loving husband, travels the country for one year, and brings it all hilariously to life in this offbeat and romantic memoir.
Doreen and Tim are married psychiatrists with a twist: She’s a self-proclaimed Long Island princess, grouchy couch potato, and shoe addict. He’s an affable, though driven, outdoorsman. When Tim suggests “chucking it all” to travel cross-country in a converted bus, Doreen asks, “Why can’t you be like a normal husband in a midlife crisis and have an affair or buy a Corvette?” But she soon shocks them both, agreeing to set forth with their sixty-pound dog, two querulous cats—and no agenda—in a 340-square-foot bus.
Queen of the Road is Doreen’s offbeat and romantic tale about refusing to settle; about choosing the unconventional road with all the misadventures it brings (fire, flood, armed robbery, and finding themselves in a nudist RV park, to name just a few). The marvelous places they visit and delightful people they encounter have a life-changing effect on all the travelers, as Doreen grows to appreciate the simple life, Tim mellows, and even the pets pull together. Best of all, readers get to go along for the ride through forty-seven states in this often hilarious and always entertaining memoir, in which a boisterous marriage of polar opposites becomes stronger than ever.

“Queen of the Road” is already in its sixth printing, was published by Broadway in New York, chosen as a Target Break-Out Book, picked by the Chicago Tribune for their “Summer Reading List”, featured by Borders as its top Feature in its Book Club and hit Denver’s Bestselling List. In addition, Korean and German rights were just sold.
The New York Post says, “(The book is) a Charles Kuralt-Albert Brooks-style romp where they meet up with nudists, robbers and more. Required reading.” New York Times Bestselling Novelist Jonathan Kellerman notes, “A charming, insightful and – most important – hilarious book that evokes the best of Bill Bryson and David Sedaris, but spotlights the unique voice of a gifted memoirist.”
Everyone who reads it, as seen on Amazon, gives it a 5 star rating.

I have taken a great road trip to Key West from NY..and it was really fun. We took our car, packed it up and took our doggies too. thanks for the fab contest.
Great review of this book. would love to be “a queen of the road”.jane
Yes, I’ve been on two. My dad was a teacher so he had summers off, and my mom was a stay-at-home mom so she had summers off (sort of…LOL). So, when summer came, my mom, dad, me, and my two sisters all piled into our van, and we traveled across country, camping and sight seeing in every single state, but Florida, Hawaii, and Alaska. I’ve since been to Hawaii, but stayed in a hotel. We did this trip twice, and we did it twice through Canada as well. What an amazing experience my parents gave us by taking us on those trips!!!
Thanks so much!!

YES! I have made two trips cross country. But the most recent was our move from Seattle to KY. In a rented RV, tons of our stuff and FIVE doxons and a cat. It was the longest 4 days (yeah we really pushed through) of my life. I can’t think of anybody else I would want to do the trip with other than my hubby. It was awesome and grueling.
And we sure have a few stories. LOL

I have been wanting to read this one. It sounds excellent!
Me personally, I’ve never made a full cross country road trip. I have, however, made several halfway across the country road trips, and they’re so much fun. We did them when I was a little girl, and now my husband and I have begun doing them with our daughters. A couple of years ago we did one from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania with our two little girls (ages 1 and 3 at the time). We all had a blast, and even though we didn’t do anything extrordinary along the way we made great memories to last a lifetime.
Thanks for the entry!

I haven’t tried a full cross country trip, I have done half country – Missouri to Washington DC with three friends. Then Missouri to California with my two boys. Neither were much fun, but maybe one with hubby would be good!
